Summary

RYLA stands for "Rotary Youth Leadership Awards" and is Rotary's coveted leadership training program for young people. Participants must be between their junior and senior year of high school.

RYLA emphasizes leadership, citizenship, and personal growth, and aims to:

  • Demonstrate Rotary's respect and concern for youth
  • Provide an effective training experience for selected youth and potential leaders
  • Encourage leadership of youth by youth
  • Recognize publicly young people who are rendering service to their communities

Every year, the Rotary Club of Shippensburg will award a scholarship to fund RYLA attendance for two students who demonstrate leadership skills in the community and wish to develop them further.

Event Information
All applicants MUST be approved by a sponsoring Rotary Club, and be submitted by the club. Any application mailed directly from an applicant to the registrar will be returned!
  1. Please download the RYLA Application and complete (by typing) the entire application.
  2. Print the completed application.
  3. Have your parent or guardian sign the Parent Consent Form.
  4. Sign the student consent yourself.
  5. Attach a full-color photo head shot for use in the RYLA booklet (or email the digital photo file only to office@rotary7390.org).
  6. After that is completed, please forward the application to the Rotary Club of Shippensburg. The club will complete the Sponsoring Club Endorsement and forward it to the RYLA Registrar.
  7. Download the Messiah College Challenge Course Release form.*
  8. Print the Release form.
  9. Have your parent or guardian sign the Release form.
  10. Sign the release form yourself.

*Our host, Messiah College, requires all participants to have a signed release form to participate in these activities. Please understand that this is a standard release form and covers any potential risk faced by a participant. While any participant may be subject to injuries, your child will be participating in activities that we feel are quite safe. RYLA Conferees WILL NOT BE PARTICIPATING IN THE FOLLOWING: Caving, Canoeing/kayaking or Rock Climbing.
